Born to rock and roll

Mp3 file

Preacher `s talking `bout a new tomorrow Saying we’re running out of time
Life we’re living is a disgrace And we ought to leave it all behind
Send your money and feel much better That’s his recipe
But the way he’s talking and from what I’ve learned Seems like the devil’s got me

`Cause I was born to rock and roll Mama Born to roll and rock
Like a wino on the corner I don’t know how to stop
If anybody ask you where I went wrong Tell them I’m doing all right
`Cause I was born to rock and roll Mama I’m rocking this city tonight

Since I was a kid or at least fifteen I had a guitar of my own
Showing off to the girls My fingers hurt to the bone
In and out of some different bands That never went too far
Looking back I guess it’s true It’s hard to be a rock and roll star

`Cause I was born to rock and roll Mama Born to roll and rock
Like a wino on the corner I don’t know how to stop
If anybody ask you where I went wrong Tell them I’m doing all right
`Cause I was born to rock and roll Mama I’m rocking this city tonight

Had some friends through the years Some just fell off the way
Have some sweet memories of girls And the games we’d play
Seems like I can’t settle down There’s still so much left to see
Hey I was born to rock and roll Mama Look what it’s done to me

`Cause I was born to rock and roll Mama Born to roll and rock
Like a wino on the corner I don’t know how to stop
If anybody ask you where I went wrong Tell them I’m doing all right
`Cause I was born to rock and roll Mama I’m rocking this city tonight

Sea Song

Mp3 file

Many a poor young boy Have heard the ocean call
Life upon the ocean Made a sailor of them all
Grandpa was a sailor The ocean was his floor
One stormy night he stumbled Now he’s gone forever more

Now the sailor makes a living One step away from deathship
The sea is full of danger And there ain’t no time to rest
The Captain is a mean man But he knows the sea real well
Hey ho and up she’ll go He’ll send us all to hell

Hey haul away Joe The wind is blowing free
Hey haul away Joe Into the roaring sea
There’s a girl in every harbor Crying her eyes red
Ah her ship won’t be coming `Cause her poor sailors dead

Now the wind knows every sailor And the devil knows their names
At night we hear him calling In the dark he’ll make his claim
You better stay awake boy He’s out to get your soul
No place left to hide boy The sea is dark and cold

Hey haul away Joe The wind is blowing free
Hey haul away Joe Into the roaring sea
There’s a girl in every harbor Crying her eyes red
Ah her ship won’t be coming `Cause her poor sailors dead

Like my father done before me And his fathers father too
I`m going to the Captain Sail away is what I`ll do
I`m headed for the ocean A shortcut to my grave
Please say a prayer for me Once a poor boy now a slave

Last night I dreamed of heaven I saw the pearly gate
The good Lord stood above me And said thou are to late
Said go back to the ocean Heaven’s not for thee
There’s nothing I can do boy The devil rules the sea

anchor

Hey haul away Joe The sun is sinking low
Hey haul away Joe Into the sea you’ll go

There’s a girl in every harbor Crying her eyes red
Ah her ship won’t be coming `Cause her poor sailors dead

Hey haul away Joe The wind is blowing free
Hey haul away Joe Into the roaring sea
There’s a girl in every harbor Crying her eyes red
Ah her ship won’t be coming `Cause her poor sailors dead

Lille meg

Mp3 file

Er sommernatten like lang Som før i tiden
Kan du huske at vi svor Om evighet
Da jeg rørte ved din hånd Utenfor kinoen
To nyforelskedes Første kjærlighet

1000 miles

Mp3 file

Everybody’s ‘fraid of dying Or winding up alone
Like a child needs a mother Everybody needs a home
I guess Jimmie once belonged somewhere Said he’d go back home someday
I shared my last beer with him And heard what he had to say

A 1000 miles I’ve drifted down the highway
A 1000 miles Don’t seem much When you keep moving on
Stop to rest When I can
No-one welcomes A traveling man
But I bet they sleep much better When I’m gone

He said I guess it was my own fault ‘Though I tried to do my best
All I own is what I’m wearing You know the whiskey took the rest
Now son I see you’re a young man You know I’ve been as young as you
Now you listen close to Jimmie ‘Cause what ol’ Jimmie says is true

A 1000 miles I’ve drifted down the highway
A 1000 miles Don’t seem much When you keep moving on
Stop to rest When I can
No-one welcomes A traveling man
But I bet they sleep much better When I’m gonee

After leaving  the bar that evening I never saw Jimmie again
But if you ever meet someone like Jimmie Make sure to call him friend
‘Cause nobody deserves the darkness Of being all alone
So here’s a song for all the Jimmies And I hope they make it home

A 1000 miles I’ve drifted down the highway
A 1000 miles Don’t seem much When you keep moving on
Stop to rest When I can
No-one welcomes A traveling man
But I bet they sleep much better When I’m gone

Wanderin`soul

Mp3 file

I was born on a windy day
Saw the wind blow my Pappy away
Mama cussed and began to cry
She said boy I see your Daddies eyes
Preacher come a knocking on our door
Said I’ve seen his kind before
Ain’t no heart just a big black hole
The boy is born with a wandering soul

I’ve got a wandering soul
I’ve got a wandering soul
Someday I’ll settle down
Six feet in the ground

Started school learned to read and write
Spent my time watching stars at night
Somehow I knew that I had to go
Anywhere that the wind would blow
Jumped a train never looking back
Slept in barns and railroad shacks
Kept a walking ‘though my feet were cold
‘Cause I was born with a wandering soul

I’ve got a wandering soul
I’ve got a wandering soul
Someday I’ll settle down
Six feet in the ground

Only one true friend I’ve got
Is the wind and it blows a lot
Gives me wings when I need to fly
Brings me down when I’m way up high
But I know I know my time will come
Someday I’ll face my setting sun
All I want written on my stone
Here lies a boy with a wandering soul

I’ve got a wandering soul
I’ve got a wandering soul
Someday I’ll settle down
Six feet in the ground

The man I didn`t know

Mp3 file

I was born in ’65
Some years before my grandpa died
One day Daddy didn’t come home
So Mama raised her kids alone

I recall my Daddy
As the man I Didn’t know
Through the years I’ve wondered
Did he ever miss to watch his son grow
Through the eyes of a child
He was a hero
Like a general on his horse
He seemed so tall
But soon I learned
That truth runs in circles
Now the ol’ man’s just
An ol’ man after all

Started school where I learned to swear
And parents taught their kids to stare
‘Cause they all knew that Daddy ran
And I couldn’t make’ em understand

I recall my Daddy
As the man I Didn’t know
Through the years I’ve wondered
Did he ever miss to watch his son grow
Through the eyes of a child
He was a hero
Like a general on his horse
He seemed so tall
But soon I learned
That truth runs in circles
Now the ol’ man’s just
An ol` man after all

Well Mama made me what I am
She raised her kids with a gentle hand
Late some nights we could hear her cry
But we were kids so we never knew why

I recall my Daddy
As the man I Didn’t know
Through the years I’ve wondered
Did he ever miss to watch his son grow
Through the eyes of a child
He was a hero
Like a general on his horse
He seemed so tall
But soon I learned
That truth runs in circles
Now the ol’ man’s just
An ol’ man after all

Hope I meet him again someday
‘Though I don’t know what I’m gonna say
He oughta know that his boy is fine
He oughta know he ain’t no Father of mine

I recall my Daddy
As the man I Didn’t know
Through the years I’ve wondered
Did he ever miss to watch his son grow
Through the eyes of a child
He was a hero
Like a general on his horse
He seemed so tall
But soon I learned
That truth runs in circles
Now the ol’ man’s just
An ol’ man after all

Same ol`boy

Mp3 file

I’m so tired I’m just looking
For a place To rest
I have traveled far I probably
Don’t look My best
I have seen some things And made
Some dreams Come true
But dreams Don’t last
As long as Hard times do

I’m so weary I don’t know
Which way To go
When you’re on Your own
Good times Never show
And every road I choose
Takes me back to where I’ve already been
But it’s the same Ol’ lies that make
Me turn My back again

Same ol’ boy Just a little bit older
Running scared But moving slow
Same ol’ boy Now looking for a shoulder
To rest my head upon When the cold wind blows

I’m a seeker But I guess
It’s hard To find
The thing We need
The most Peace of mind
But if I Leave today
Who would Understand
That the boy From yesterday
Has become A man

Same ol’ boy Just a little bit older
Running scared But moving slow
Same ol’ boy Now looking for a shoulder
To rest my head upon When the cold wind blows

I better be careful

Mp3 file

I better be careful Walking on thin ice
I oughta move slowly With you here tonight
I better be careful Or I might fall
This must be heaven And you must be an angel after all

Being here alone with you Is all that matters now
Arms to hold and lips to kiss It feels so right somehow
Look in my eyes Tell me do you really see
All the love I’ve saved for you Hoping that it really could be

I better be careful Walking on thin ice
I oughta move slowly With you here tonight
I better be careful Or I might fall
This must be heaven And you must be an angel after all

I thought love was all for fools ‘Cause it always turned out wrong
You made me believe in love And the strength to carry on
I close my eyes ‘Cause I can’t believe it’s true
This must be heaven ‘Cause I can see an angel in you

I better be careful Walking on thin ice
I oughta move slowly With you here tonight
I better be careful Or I might fall
This must be heaven And you must be an angel after all

One of the boys

Mp3 file

Country boys Our world was the nearest bar
Crazy kids Getting drunk and wrecking cars
Living fast Some of us died young
So the ones who remained Got a hinch about the hard times to come

As I rest my head It all comes back to me
The ol’ gang of mine Running wild and feeling free
Little did we know Soon there would come a day
When the ol’ gang split And threw their Blue-jeans away

Don’t you know I’ll always be One of the boys
Just crazy wild cats Where girls are our favorite toys
There’ll always be a party Like the one yesterday
Boys will be boys and friends Will never go away

Well the army called Some said they had to go
In a one-horse town There ain’t so many jobs you know
Some married young Some just drifted away
Now and then we meet But there ain’t so much left to say

Don’t you know I’ll always be One of the boys
Just crazy wild cats Where girls are our favorite toys
There’ll always be a party Like the one yesterday
Boys will be boys and friends Will never go away

As I stop for red I wake up from yesterday
It’s reunion-time Just 15 miles away
But I turn my car around I can’t really go
So many years Won’t come back again I know

Don’t you know I’ll always be One of the boys
Just crazy wild cats Where girls are our favorite toys
There’ll always be a party Like the ones of yesterday
Boys will be boys and friends Will never go away

Make it to the border

Mp3 file

Well the law is out to get us And they probably will
There’s a bunch from down south And they shoot to kill
Women crying Their husbands dead Now there’s a prize on our heads
Yeah, there’s a prize on our heads

But if we make it to the border They’ll leave us alone
If we make it to the border We’ll find a better home
If we run for the border now We better run for the border now

When times are hard The man gets tough
And I tell you boy There’s plenty like us
Broken man Making his last stand With a gun in his hand
Yeah, with a gun in his hand

But if we make it to the border They’ll leave us alone
If we make it to the border We’ll find a better home
If we run for the border now
We better run for the border now

They shot Jesse In the back of the head
Young Billy too Shot down dead
They’re cleaning up this country And before they’re through
I know they’ll be coming for us too
Yeah, I know they’ll be coming for us too

But if we make it to the border They’ll leave us alone
If we make it to the border We’ll find a better home
If we run for the border now
We better run for the border now

There’s a time to live And a time to die
When we’re gone Who’ll wonder why
Was it hard times Or is the worst yet to come
When a man has to live by the gun
Yeah, when a man has to reach for his gun

But if we make it to the border They’ll leave us alone
If we make it to the border We’ll find a better home
If we run for the border now
We better run for the border now

They shot Jesse In the back of the head
Young Billy too Shot down dead
They’re cleaning up this country And before they’re through
I know they’ll be coming for us too
Yeah, I know they’ll be coming for us too

Hey little girl

Mp3 file

Hey little girl Don’t you look so sad
Don’t think about tomorrow As only bad
Hey little girl Don’t you know it’s allright
It ain’t so dark When you turn on the light

Hey little girl Don’t you know it’s said
If you want to sleep tight You’ve gotta make your own bed
Hey little girl Don’t you know it’s true
If you wanna do some changeing It all depends on you

I’ve known you Since I don’t know when
I still feel the same way Like I felt back then
But all I see Is a scared little girl
Hiding away from this Big ol’ world

Hey little girl Don’t you turn away
Don’t you know happiness Will come to you some day
Hey little girl It’s time you understood
The hard times you’re carrying Will do you no good

Hey little girl I’ll be on my way
Just think of me as someone Who tried to make you stay
Hey little girl Someday you’ll understand
You can’t settle down With a suitcase in your hand

I’ve known you Since I don’t know when
I still feel the same way Like I felt back then
But all I see Is a scared little girl
Hiding away from this Big ol’ world

Hey little girl Don’t you look so sad
Don’t think about tomorrow As only bad
Hey little girl Don’t you know it’s allright
It ain’t so dark When you turn on the light

Gypsys Knife

Mp3 file

Late some nights When the moon is cold You better stay inside
And don’t open if there’s Someone at your door
‘Cause the woods ’round here Are dangerous In the middle of the night
It can steal a soul Like it’s often done before
The local people swear It’s the Gypsy who’s returned
Roaming ’round the woods For his wife
And in the morning When the sun comes up On a lonely path you’ll find
Blood stains From the Gypsys knife

Go down to the church And at the graveyard You will find
A tombstone with no flowers And no name
The Gypsy-queen is buried there And if what they say is true
She’s laid face-down To hide away the shame
The stories here are many But at one point they all agree
One stormy night The Gypsy took her life
And he left her on A lonely path In the middle of the woods
Stabbed to death By the Gypsies knife

Oh, it’s a mystery They say
On that night All the gypsies went away
But in the woods If you hear a Gypys lonely cry
You better run Or you’re gonna die

It happened many years ago When the gypsys Roamed the land
And now and then they’d pass Trough our town
The Gypsy-queen was seventeen Her man was forty-four
They say he was The meanest man around
The Gypsy-queen was lonely In our town she found someone
And secretly they’d meet Late at night
The Gypsy caught them in the woods Since then late some nights
You can run but you cannot hide From the Gypsys knife

Oh, it’s a mystery They say
On that night All the gypsies went away
But in the woods If you hear a Gypys lonely cry
You better run Or you’re gonna die

so when the nights are getting long You better stay out Of the woods
‘Cause the Gypsy might be there And call your name
Forever he is searching ‘Though his Gypsy-queen is dead
But a young boys blood He’s come to claim
I was just a kid But I’m the only one Who saw
And I’m the one who took The Gypsys life
Now he’s buried with his Gypsy-queen but his soul
Is in the woods Calling out The Gypsys knife

Oh, I know I never Will be free
‘Cause in the woods someday I know he will find me
And too the woods I go When she calls me late some nights
But is it her Or the Gypsys knife

Oh, it’s a mystery They say
On that night All the gypsies went away
But in the woods If you hear a Gypys lonely cry
You better run Or you’re gonna die

When the sun shines tomorrow

Mp3 file

From my window I can see An eagle flying by
The sun is wakening from its sleep Up in the sky
There’s a cloud up ahead And I think it’s gonna rain
But the wind is blowing And it’s calling’ my name

My woman’s still in bed She don’t know what’s going on
I ought to crawl back next to her And tell her nothing’s wrong
But my mind wrote a letter That tears won’t see
And I don’t know why I’m doing this But I’ve got to be free

So when the sun shines tomorrow I’ll be somewhere new
With loneliness to guide me And memories of you
Now please don’t think the worst of me You know I love you so
But if you really love me Then you have to let me go

The wind don’t blow But I can feel it all the time
It’s cold in the summer When there’s trouble on your mind
But the sand in my shoes Feels like a long lost friend
And I tip my hat to the city-sign ‘Cause I won’t be back again

So when the sun shines tomorrow I’ll be somewhere new
With loneliness to guide me and memories of you
Now please don’t think the worst of me you know I love you so
But if you really love me then you have to let me go

Saturday Night

Mp3 file

Well never seen eyes That look so sweet
Never met a fool Who didn’t play for keeps
How do you doDo you feel alright
Everything’s o.k. On Saturday night

Well come on girl Give this boy a chance
All I want is You and me to dance
Don’t look so shy This ol’ dog won’t bite
Everything’s o.k. On Saturday night

Been working all week Now it’s time for fun
Saved up my money For a special one
Point at it girl Anything you like
Everything’s O.K. On Saturday Saturday Saturday night

Well Girl you’re pretty And I must confess
I want more Than I want less
Give me your heart And I’ll hold on tight
Everything’s o.k. On Saturday night

Well Monday morning It’s back in line
Think of you And how you wooed my mind
Buy you a ring And if you think it’s alright
We can go steady Next Saturday night

Been working all week Now it’s time for fun
Saved up my money For a special one
Point at it girl Anything you like
Everything’s O.K. On Saturday Saturday Saturday night

Well never seen eyes That look so sweet
Never met a fool Who didn’t play for keeps
How do you do Do you feel alright
Everything’s o.k. On Saturday night

The River

Mp3 file

When I was a kid I heard the wild wind call
And I figured I couldn’t stay
So I went to the river to cross the other side
But the river was cold that day

The river was cold that day
So I turned and I walked away
The wild wind was calling and I couldn’t stay
But the river was cold that day

Soon I was a young man with dreams in my head
And the ol’ folks were only in my way
So I ran to the river to cross the other side
But the river was deep that day

The river was deep that day
So I turned and walked the other way
But I made it a promise I’d come back some day
But the river was deep that day

Somehow I got married- a good wife and a job
A new car and a pile of bills to pay
One night I sneaked to the river to cross the other side
But the river was wide that day

The river was wide that day
So I thought awhile then slowly walked away
Hell I ain’t no good a swimmer and the shore was far away
The river was wide that day

Now I’m an old man I’ve watched my children grow
Can’t believe how the years slip away
Now their building a bridge to cross the other side
‘Cause the river ran dry today

The river ran dry today
Just like me time washed it away
Now I’m watching the sunset guess that’s all there’s left to say
‘Cause the river ran dry today
